Dog pregnancy calculator
Due-date window from the breeding date or your vet’s LH test, and which day of pregnancy it is today.
How this works
Dogs are pregnant for about 63 days counted from ovulation, but owners rarely know the day of ovulation. Sperm can survive for days and eggs need time to mature after ovulation, so the mating date is only a rough guide. That’s why the window is wide:
- From the first breeding: puppies usually arrive 58–72 days after the first day the female accepted the male (MSD Veterinary Manual; AKC).
- From the LH surge or first progesterone rise (measured by your vet’s blood tests): 64–66 days, a much tighter window.
Your vet can confirm the pregnancy, estimate how many puppies to expect and help you plan the birth. If more than about 72 days pass after the first breeding, or your dog strains for a long time without a puppy, call your vet straight away.
